Education

The APICS Golden Gate Chapter proudly offers the following APICS Body of Knowledge educational opportunities:

CSCP—Certified Supply Chain Professional

The Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) program is a new industry educational and certification program created to meet the rapidly changing needs of the supply chain management field.

From the manufacturing to the service industry, regardless of whether a company is serving business or consumer markets or is for profit or not-for-profit, the increasingly important role of supply chain management is affecting all organizations. Customers already expect good quality at low prices, and speed of delivery is becoming more important. As a result, effective supply chain management has become essential to successfully compete in today's global marketplace.

The CSCP program takes a broad view of the field, extending beyond internal operations to encompass all the steps throughout the supply chain—from the supplier, through the company, to the end consumer—and provides you with the knowledge to effectively manage the integration of these activities to maximize a company's value chain.

CPIM—Certified in Production and Inventory Management

APICS introduced in 1973 the Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) review courses program. APICS designed the CPIM program in response to the increasing complexities and technological advances that mandate a continual increase in the skills and knowledge of workers in the manufacturing and service sectors.

CPIM offers the operations management professional in-depth knowledge within specialized functional areas in the production and inventory management (P&IM) environment. Increased technical knowledge and expertise gained from the course of study enhances the ability of the CPIM professional to predict outcomes accurately and apply actions that achieve results.

Fundamentals of Materials and Operations Management

This four module program is designed for people working in the fields of materials and operations management, or a functional area that interfaces with them, who need to learn the basic concepts, techniques, and terminology of these fields.

Completion of this program will greatly improve the participant's understanding of materials and operations management, and will provide skills that can be used in the work environment. These practical courses are based on a solid body of knowledge that has evolved over the past half-century.

These modules are not intended to directly prepare students to take the APICS professional certification exams for Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) and Certified in Integrated Resource Management (CIRM). Instead, the Fundamentals program will provide solid entry-level knowledge of materials and operations management - a suitable academic background for those who wish to continue their studies toward CPIM and CIRM.

There are no formal prerequisites for these courses other than personal motivation, although some formal education will enhance the participant's studies. These courses do involve some quantitative content, so knowledge of basic mathematics is an asset.

Participant evaluation includes weekly performance checks of class work, readings and homework; a midterm examination; a final examination; and case studies. Each course consists of 36 hours of classroom time, made up of 12 three hour sessions.
